Dec 14, 2007 - Longview, TX: Need gift cards for household & camera

My Name is Ira, I am an evacuee of Hurricane Katrina from New Orleans, Louisiana. Since the evacuation life has been a mental, financial and emotional struggle. I am writing this letter in plea for your assistance in recovering my life.

I have recently relocated (again) to Longview Texas where I have been training with a local photographer. I would like to request a gift card/voucher donation of $250.00, or better to purchase household goods, clothing and camera equipment (I currently have nothing). If you have a professional camera that you can donate or a used laptop, that can help me in my photography.

This gift/donation would help me to re-establish myself and to create a stream of income that would help me to rebuild my life as well as care for my family. In turn I will be able to help others in their recovery.

Please feel free to contact me at the address/ phone# below. Thanking you in advance for your compassion...

Oct 17, 2007 - Little Rock - Need clothing, food, Medicaid

I am from New Orleans La. and I want to move back home. What can I do when funds are just not right. I have a disability claim pending and it has been quite some time already. I have been displaced to Little Rock Ar. now about 27 months with my children. I have a son 15 and a daughter 16. My daughter lives with my oldest son back in Covington La. and I go back and fourth to Covington just to get her so we can spend time together. The reason she is there is because she has not adjusted to this dramatic change. She felt better being close to home so we have decided for now that I would commute back and fourth. We didn't anticipate that I would still be in Little Rock. Before this disaster I have always worked and been to independent and was able to provide for my children and myself pretty well. We also always had medical insurance. I am not physically fit and my health is really poor since all this disaster and this is the reason I have had to file for my disability. I have Binder and Binder and these people are something because they expect me to pay for all kinds of medical reports with very little income. You see I get a small social security check for my son cause he has a little disability of his own. With that money I have to pay constant doctor bills and meds for myself not to add the monthly bills I have to pay also. I can't even get Medicaid here in Little Rock. I am so lost for words and so beside myself with depression. I have been told by my doctor to go to see a psychiatrist so I can be evaluated for another medication I can not afford. We have no friends or family here so we stay confined to our house. I try so hard to figure out our next move but sometimes I can't even focus. Right now I desperately need help with some information that could help my family and I on how to be able to move back home to affordable housing. I need help with food (I receive 38.00 in food stamps) and what can you do with that? I need help with clothing for my children. I need a lawyer to help me get my disability someone who can get my medical records from the necessary doctors. I need Medicaid. I am really in a horrible mess cause of this disaster, not to say that the holidays are arround the corner. I haven't had a decent holiday with all my children or my family, for all my older children and my grandchildren live in Louisiana. So if there is any available info out there that could help me here in Little Rock please notify me at aauglair!yahoo.com or my home phone is 501-246-5912. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank-you. Just missing home!!!

July 25, 2007 - St. Bernard Louisiana: Urgent need Help!!

I am a single mother of a 3 yr old girl. I am back in St. Bernard Parish living in a FEMA trailer in front of my home that I am rebuilding on my own. I work but it is not a lot of money. I do it because I have no money for child care and she comes with me to work. I was just able to get a used car from saving a few hundred so I can work. I still have not been able to get the license plate due to a lack of 300 dollars for the license tax and registration. All the bills are paid but electric and water. I tried to pay a portion to the companies but they are still wanting to disconnect me this Monday if not paid.. I really need help.. How do I explain to my 3 yr old, we have no A/C or no cold water to drink.. I hate to ask for help..but if anyone knows where I can go or any advice please let me know ASAP.. thanks!! Also if anyone is helping rebuild homes.. I have my home that I have started to rebuild and have some materials but I have been doing it on my own.. I have no money to give for help and I am not getting any help from any organizations because my parents helped me get the home in 2004. I am not on the deed but I pay all notes, insurance and taxes. Being that my parents helped me so I would not have such a high interest rate from just starting out (also had no flood.. when purchased they told me I was not in a flood zone so no need) I am getting penalized for that. SBA..road home.. no one will help me in anyway.. Once my FEMA trailer is picked up from in front of my home we are then homeless unless we live in the house that is far from being finished.. Thanks so much for your help and any info that can be given for help.. My email address is <MissMiniMe1234 @ yahoo .com> (remove spaces)

Thanks again, Dawnielle

July 9, 2007 - Family needs rent assistance

Hello, this is to who every can help my family. I am a working single mother of 4 children, 15, 14, 12, and 10. Also care for my elderly mother. I have been trying to take care of everything on my own since 2005 when everything was taken from us except each other Thank GOD! This past year has been the roughest year in my life. I was working 2 jobs to try to manage all the bills and to keep food on the table. But had to quit my night job to be home with my 10 year old who is bi-polar and also started having seizures. He has had a rough year and been changed from one medicine to another and also hospitalized. My work has been really kind to me and letting me take time when i need to pick him up from school or take him to the doctor (which is very often). Right now I am 2 months behind on my house payment and just got a eviction notice giving me 30 days to pay. I have been trying to manage my bills but it has been very hard, with everything going up. I am not asking for a hand out. If anyone can help my family or put me in the right direction. This is the first time i have every done something like this. I just do not know what else to do. Thank you and god bless.

July 8, 2007 - MA: Disabled survivor looking for housing.

Hi I am a 26 year old female, and I came across this webpage. I am not a victim of hurricane Katrina, but I want to see if I can find help on here. I am a victim of domestic violence, I was assaulted, and I currenting am medically disabled. But I want to press charges aginst him, and get a restraining order. I have been in a shelter before, but it was a homeless shelter and I was on the streets from 8am until 4pm all day, and that was no good for me. A family member took me in, but told the other person where I'm living, and I have to move out. I'm looking for housing in MASSACHUSETTS. Can anyone help me? Thankyou very much for reading this, and if anyone knows of a different website where I can get help, can you let me know? Thanks! May 29, 2007 - Biloxi, MS survivors need food and funds

I am now living in a FEMA park in Biloxi. When Katrina hit my 15 year old son and I were renting a house in Gulfport,Ms.. I am a 55 yr old male who has by the grace of God survived 4 heart attacks and two open heart surgerys.. I do receive disability, $760 a month. Right after Katrina hit the heat and lack of water was unreal as of course their was no power in Gulfport for 2 weeks.. I was a plumber in my preheart attack days and had an old customer who owns a RV park on the beach in Biloxi who evacuated to Florida a few days prior to the storm.. The roof was torn from our rental house and the southern brick wall blown in, so we lost everything we had which wasn't much.. But I did have a 38 ft Rv that I pulled within *" of the north wall of the house and the only damage to it was where the roof shingle went thru windows and it ripped the AC cowling off.. Never did find it but we bade a roof anyway.. The folks who own the RV park got in touch with me 7 days post Katrina and asked if there was anyway that I could get my RV to the park to stop the looting going on till the National Guard and the other federal aid that took weeks to arrive got here and there was electricity on in that section of Biloxi as the fire station was next door... So we made our way here by some miracle and helped clean up the mess getting ready to open the park for aid workers and such..The owners came back 3 weeks later.. They give us 3 months free lot rent which is 375 per month and we held on... Mean while they rented the park to all 170 sites to FEMA and in rolled the RV's.. I applied to FEMA countless times and was denied because they say I'm my own landlord????? As I post this today we are without food and funds till the end of the month and that will last a few days after lot rent and utilities are paid.. If anyone out there can help we'd appreciate it.. Any help... Thank You for reading this...

May 28, 2007 - Morton, MS couple needs rent, food, and medicine

Hello there. Me and my husband are in need of helping pay rent, get food and medicines. I am not a Katrina survivor but am in Morton, Mississippi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morton%2C_MS). My rent is $450.00 and I have no way of paying it. My medicines: I am a diabetic and have high blood pressure and chronic back pain from a car accident and am not able to work. I have been with out my medicines over a month with constant problems with my diabetes and high blood pressure. I have no money to buy them. They are around a $100.00 a month and I was approved for SSI but I won't get it until July. I don't know what we are going to do. We have no food in the refrigerator. We get food stamps but not until the 14th of June. I am so stressed I have no idea what I'm going to do. Which isn't helping my blood sugar. I was in the ER a couple of days ago with it being very high from the lack of meds and the stress. I have no way of paying any of my bills for these two months. If there is anyone out there that can help us I would appreciate it. My husband is looking for work and hasn't had any luck. Like I said I have no clue what I'm going to do. Is there anyone who can help us?

I do have Yahoo if you can contact me and let me know if you can help.

I now want to relocate back south but lack any funds for the expensive move. Moving trailers are expensive and so is gas. Apr 30, 2007 - Couple in Ohio needs help returning to Louisiana

My husband was born and raised in Empire La, although I was not born there I have been a La resident since 1989, after Katrina and all that we had was washed away, we was relocated to Ohio. We are on a fixed income each month. Here the housing authority put us on the HUD program as soon as we got to Ohio and put us into an apartment. In Nov. 2005 we was contacted by fema about a trailer, once they found out HUD was paying our rent they said we did not qualify for a trailer as we was already in housing and that we should stay where we was. I understood this as there was so many out of a place to live at all. Saturday I called FEMA and ask how could we get one of the trailers that they are taking down the road to Plaquemines Parish for parish residents, and was told that my husband was no longer a Louisiana citizen and that he has no right to ask for any help from FEMA in any way. Other than a few hunting trips over the 59 years of his life he had never been out of the state till Katrina. As I said we live on a fixed income and we are looking for a way to return to Louisiana, I did not want to return to Plaquemines as we have lost our home now twice in 2 years to hurricanes ( 2004, Ivan a tornado took the trailer that we bought when hubby's back pay from Social Security came through after fighting them for 3 years) and 10 months later again to Katrina, after we just got set back up. We could not afford insurance as it was over $200. a month and we get $700. a month to live on. My husband is so depressed being here a 1000 miles from home and his family, and wants to go back, but it seems that now that we are up here, FEMA says he has no right to go back, we wanted to relocate to the Breaux Bridge, Louisiana area where most of his family went and where we would at least be out of the line of the storm on the most part. Where do we find help to get there and housing, someone must care that we so far from home and no way to get back. Is there anyone in the Breaux Bridge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breaux_Bridge%2C_Louisiana) area that is willing to help up get home to Louisiana, or any good people that would help us go home. It's been nearly 2 years now and we want to go home but seems that fema only willing to house the drug addicts and the ones that don't want to get out of their trailers and some I know didn't even have a home before the storm and being housed in their trailers and don't have any intentions at all to get out they are enjoying a free ride. Several I can name right now that was street peple, we owned at first then rented and now we are told to stay where we are and not come back. Don't think that is fair to my husband that has spent his entire life there. If any one has any suggestions my email address is <bdugas777 @ hotmail .com> (remove spaces).

Apr 28, 2007 - Heart attack triggers unusual situation

I am a divorced teacher in Pascagoula, MS with 2 children in college, and my home was totalled by Katrina (along with all of our belongings and vehicles). When I tried for 6 months to find someone to hire to fix my home,no reliable companies were willing to work on anything but high-dollar commercial construction for at least a year, so my ex-husband decided to oversee the repairs himself. (We have been divorced long enough to get along again.) His job, however, would not reduce his work hours, so he quit his job until he could return his children to my home. He was doing what he thought was the right thing for his kids. Everything was fine until he had a massive heart attack on Feb. 4 of this year. He had lost his insurance with his job. Of course that was a stupid decision, but Katrina caused a lot of us to do things we never would have done before, and hindsight is 20/20, isn't it? Because we are no longer married, I cannot qualify for any assistance to help him with medication costs (which started out at $1137/month, but I have now gotten down to $100/month),etc. I used the last of my home insurance buying these things since February, but his income paid for my daughter's car and insurance. My paycheck is $200 LESS than my expenses right now WITHOUT FOOD. Since he paid into "the system" until Katrina (when he was 45 years old), he cannot qualify for Medicaid or any other assistance, and he will not have any money of his own until 6 months AFTER HE IS APPROVED (hopefully) FOR DISABILITY, which may be anywhere from 8-18 months after his heart attack. For the same reason, he will not qualify for Medicare coverage for 2 1/2 years after his approval for disability.

At this point, I am no longer proud. I went to the agencies that offer assistance (food stamps, etc.), and I do not qualify because we are no longer married. He, however, does not qualify because he is staying here with me. In fact, he cannot get help unless I throw him out, and he has nowhere to go (after Katrina) and, with 20% of his heart functioning now, I cannot throw him out. Our situation simply does not fit any program for assistance.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do now?????

Apr 12, 2007 - Longbeach, MS - Disabled firefighter and family needs help

Disabled firefighter and family needs help getting out of fema camper....

Do you know of any help for our situation? My fiance is a disabled/retired firefighter/emt for 18 years and in 1986 as captain of Picayune Fire dept. He was injured in the line of duty cutting a person from a wreck with the jaws of life, he has saved many many lives, he has served our country for many years, he was also a marine. Now he is the one in desperate need. Can anyone help? We are from Picayune, MS but lived in Longbeach, MS when Katrina hit as renters. Like so many thousands, we lost everything that we had. Of course things like cloths, shoes and food are in need in this area but the most important thing to people seems to be finding permanent housing. Rather it be rebuilding what they lost, finding an affordable rental or buying or building a new home. Everyone just wants out of these trailers, espically the campers. Living in a camper with a family for nearly 2 years is very hard on us. We all struggle with worries about putting food on the table and cloths on our backs, but its so much more doable than trying to find housing in a place where so much of the real estate has been destroyed, the prices are unreal and people dont know what to do or where to go. While we steadily have fema asking us what we have planned for the future. Most of the people here just live day to day hoping and praying that something will come up to help their situation, most don't have internet or knowledge of any help that might be availabe, most people in trailers or campers dont know where to go or what to do, most were renters and the only help seems to be for people that owned their home when Katrina hit. It is from a total lack of money, everyone that I talk to including myself could solve the housing problems for ourselves with money, some need just a few thousand to get their lives back on track. Most of the people that I have talked to and my family as well were doing great financially before Katrina and now are in terrible shape and having to ask perfect strangers for help just to survive, it's really sad down here. People just want to have a home to go to, and a bathtub to get in and bedrooms and closets. God we miss that so much. Personally, we are living in a FEMA camper park in Picayune. My father lives in one in Pass Christian, and FEMA lets us all know regularly that it is temporary. Luckily, we have been fortunate enough to buy a piece of land but are now in need of help getting it ready for a house or mobile home. It needs clearing and a septic tank and electric, we can get community water. There is no way that we can come up with the money to even get the land ready, must less build a house. The downpayment was over $12,000 which took us a long time to save. The bank won't loan us anymore until we pay the land paid off, which will be years. I know everyone is not in the same situation but I do know that there are thousands of people here that live in campers, that were renters and can no longer afford the rent prices. It will be years before there is enough rentals rebuilt for the prices to start to drop. I don't know what the people here will do, none of us have any answers. Nothing here is normal anymore ,we see the destruction everyday, and my fiance is retired from 18 years on the fire dept.(he has seen a lot) and we are both still in shock and awe everyday at how wide spread the destruction is and how many peoples lives are hell now. It is just unreal. It seems like it happened only a few months ago, because we can't seem to move on and get out of these trailers. Housing is what we need more than anything. If people do rent something that they can't afford, then they can't pay for lights, gas and food, so we just stay in the trailers and keep waiting for something to come up. Sorry for rambling.

If anyone can help us, please email me at lavignechanda@yahoo.com Chanda LaVigne or call 601-916-2171

Apr 04, 2007 - Gulfport, MS - Water damaged home needs repair

I posted about our home last year on a couple of groups, but my Mom's health got worse than it usually is; and we were unable to follow up very well. I sent the info that the people who e-mailed me requested, but never heard back from anyone. It's just my Mom and I, and we don't know how to go about getting help from the right people.

We really do need help though, and would greatly appreciate any of the help that we can get.

The home my Mom and I own that's in the Orange Grove area of Gulfport, MS is in a worse state than it was when Katrina struck. The insurance won't pay because there was a wind exclusion on the policy that we didn't know about. They say since the wind blew some shingles off the roof, that the water damage from the water that got in wouldn't be covered.

As for the damage to the house, it's got massive water damage in the walls and ceilings in just about every room; and massive water damage in the attic There is mildew and mold on the walls and ceilings also....We haven't been able to stay in there for a long time to look around because it's been so hot in the house due to the air conditioner being broken; and it's gets so very hot and stuffy in the house that we can only stay in there for short periods at a time

We don't qualify for any grants because our home didn't flood, and we can't afford to pay back a loan because we are both sick and on SSI. We just don't know what to do now, all we want is to live in our home again; but we don't know how to go about getting help to repair it.

I'm posting this here in hopes that there might be someone reading it who may know of a group or etc. that can help my Mom and I.......

Sincerely,

Feb 26, 2007 - Family living in trailer looking for home assistance

My family, like so many others, lost everything in Katrina, just like we did years ago in Hurricane Camille. My mother is almost 80 years old and received little money from insurance and grants. There are 5 people in my family and we have lived several places since Katrina hit. We lost absolutely everything, including our cars. We had no full coverage insurance on any of them. We are still in a Fema trailer and have no hope of rebuilding where we lived because of the high price of insurance. We cannot find a house to buy with the money we have. If there is anyone out there who could help, please contact me. If we could find some land to build a house on, maybe someone could donate the labor to help build a home for us. We would gladly pay for the materials but we don't have enough money to pay for the materials and the labor. I would gladly help with any labor that we can. We don't want anything fancy. Just a home where we can live together. I will do anything possible to get a home for my mother. I don't think she will be here for much longer if she keeps on living like this and never getting any closer to getting into a house. I am sooo desperate to help her that I will do anything I possibly can, but I can't do it all by myself. My mother is a widow and has no one else to help her. Like I said before, she will give as much as she can to go towards a home. Please contact me at mmb0219@cableone.net.

Nothing here is normal anymore and the government doesn't even care. I mean Oprah has done more that them. Daily life is such a struggle, nothing is normal or easy here anymore. It is a rough life and I pray that none ever has to go through this again. This was not a typical hurricane, I have lived here all of my life and been through many hurricanes, but nothing has ever been seen like this. I see the destruction everyday, and my fiance is retired from 18 years on the fire dept.(he has seen a lot) and we are both still in shock and awe everyday at how wide spread the destruction is and how many peoples lives are hell now.

Jan 13, 2007 - Homeless in North Carolina needs rent assistance

I am not a Katrina victim but could not find any other place to post. I am desperate to find a place to live in or near Sylva NC. I have a job but I am afraid I will lose it soon if my employer finds out I am living in my car. I have lost everything and just need someone that can help me just get a fresh new start. I had to leave a very abusive situation and I have been showering and getting ready for work at a rest area and sleeping in my car. I just need someone to rent me a small house, I can pay rent just need a fresh new start. The only thing I have left in this world is my dog and we are trying to survive in my car but it is getting colder. There are no shelters in the area I am living. I got a job here so I need to live here. If anyone has a place to live or can donate anything I would appreciate it. I would be able to pay everything back in time. I had to leave my last home with only the clothes on my back, my car and my dog. I couldn't leave my dog to suffer the consequences of my leaving. My ex has shot my credit but my employer would be willing to vouch for me that I have job security. I don't want her to find out that I am having to live in my car. I was fortunate enough to have my laptop in my car when I left. I charge it up at work and have found a hotel close by that I can log on at. I am so afraid someone is going to find out that I am living in my car. I am all alone and have no one I can rely on. I am not asking for a hand out but just a jump start. I would love to find someone who might have a small home in W. NC that they would be willing to rent to own or some other similar circumstances. I have read everyones post and even though I can't help them financially I am praying for everyone on this board. thank you for your time. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dec 29, 2006 - Need Help Moving Back To New Orleans

Me and my family have been struggling to survive in Houston since we first arrived here after Katrina. I finally lined up a good job in New Orleans that will help us get back on our feet. I'm supposed to start on Jan 2nd, but I didn't realized it costs so much to rent a U-Haul. I was expecting to pay $200 at the most, but they want $700-$900 and I just can't possibly afford it. I am hoping to find someone willing to donate a truck or maybe loan me the money to rent a U-Haul truck. If anyone is willing to help or just have an idea as to how I can get a cheap truck, please call me @ 504-274-7880 or email me at dyce12345@yahoo.com.

Thank You.

Dec 12, 2006 - MS family needs help for Christmas and home contruction

CHRISTMAS HELP

Hi, I am a mother of two. Times are really hard since Katrina. I just found out yesterday that my job of almost ten years is playing out. The company is moving to another state. It is going to be a very slim Christmas around our house. The children are 10 and 13. They are old enough to understand hopefully. My husband has had a few jobs here and there but it's hard to find a good one since the storm. We are still living in a Fema camper trying to rebuild our house ourselves because cost of materials and labor are so much. Any help would be apprciated for Christmas or in the rebuilding of our house.

Dec 09, 2006 - Need Christmas gifts for 2 small kids

I am needing help this Christmas to get my two kids some gifts. Since Katrina we have been struggling and I dont want them to wake up Christmas morning with nothing there for them. I had to decide to either pay the electric bill this month or a Christmas. It has been very cold up in today it was 17 degrees. I had to choose the electric bill. I just wish I can have a small tree with a few presents for them. Anything will help I have a 8 year old boy and a 3 year old girl. Toys or clothes are welcomed. Sizes 8 year old boy wears med. Shirts & 8-10 Pants. 3 year old girl wears 3-4 toddler outfits. Any toys will be fine. My son likes baseball, cars, basketball any boy toys. My Daughter likes dolls, dora, elmo, nemo, barbies, loves to play dress up. Also if maybe not to much to ask maybe a gift card or something to like Walmart or something to get just a small tree for them. It would really help out just to se them have a great big smile on Christmas and not be upset when they wake up to nothing at all. Please if you can, anything at all .... Nov 18, 2006 - MS family needs financial help - Christmas cards welcomed

I am a school teacher in Pass Christian MS, my husband is a police officer for the city of Gulfport. Since the storm all four of our children have moved back in with us. We are having trouble financially because the cost of living went up 30% and our salaries did not. Just providing food is taking a major part of our income. Two of our children are working and two are still in school. Our youngest son is studying to be a preacher. The two that are working help financially as they can. We need a small car for our daughter whom is going to school. Any other financial help would be greatly appreciated. It is very hard to stay sane when you have been through a storm like this, we were in seperate locations because my husband worked through the storm, I was at my parents, but we were both in the water most of that day. We suffer from post traumatic stress and somedays the stress of money problems can be overwhelming. Please keep us in your prayers and if you can't help financially send us a Christnas card to brighten our spirits.

Nov 15, 2006 - Fraud warnings from a hurricane victem

ALERT

My name and address have been on this website for a couple of months now begging for help. Any kind of help. I have received over 100 emails from people who are "very concerned and want to help". Every email wants to know what they can do and EVERY email is a SCAM. They are from people who are trying prey on people in need from a diaster. They "claim" that they will send you a check (usually for some large amount) BUT that whole check is not for you. They want you to cash the check and then take a specified amount of it for self and then you are to get a money order for the remaining amount and send that to someone else that THEY specify. Usually, the original check or money order is bogus and the bank doesn't catch it right away. Then YOU are out the TOTAL amount of the original check but the scammers are raking in YOUR money in the deal.

Others, want you to give them your banking information so that they can do a "wire transfer" into your account. DO NOT DO THIS. They will have all of your personal information and steal your identity and the only thing that you will be left holding is an empty bank account and "the bag".

These scammers are out there by the millions. The emails come in costume of people who are actually worried about us and sincerely want to help us. IT'S ACTUALLY A BUNCH OF BULL!!! My first form of "HELP" appeared in the form of 4 American Express cheques, each made out in MY name, each made out in the amount of $500.00. I was to cashed all 4 of the cheques but I was to only keep $1000.00 and forward the other $1000.00 to a specified person. I immediately was suspicious and went to my local sheriff's department who found out that all of the cheques were stolen from American Express. AND THESE CHEQUES WERE SENT TO ME BY SOMEONE CLAIMING TO BE A "REVERAND IN THE LORD".

I have not YET received legimate help from ANYONE. And I really felt that we (the actual survivors of Hurricane Katrina and Rita) should be VERY MUCH aware of the "TRASH" that is out there trying to make money off of people like us.

Thank you

Nov 14, 2006 - Working family in MS needs assistance to get a home

Hi my name is Robin Reynolds I live in Pearlington, MS with my husband and 3 children. We currently live in a FEMA trailor trying to get back on our feet. Due to Katrina my husband is the only one working right now and is only making minimum wage so its been very hard for us to try to purchase a home or mobile home. We have tried to look for an apartment but they are way out of our price range. We did get some FEMA money but very little because we were renting a house and had to split it because we had shared a home and split all utilites. I'm not very good at asking for help. We have tried really hard to do it our selves but found out we couldn't, but we are desperately in need of a home. Oct 13, 2006 - Mother still needs help returing to home /beware of fraud

Help is still direly needed / any help in these areas would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you. Came to this Katrina help site before and posted. Many many e-mail came with offers of help but all that was sent was counterfeit money orders, checks, and gift certificates. I had the bank check them out before I deposited, thank God I did. All offers had instructions to send money to another place after cashing. It would have left the bank account overdrawn on this end and all the money I would have had yo pay, including the money I would have sent on as they requested. Greed has people taking advantage of people already devastated. So beware of this. All I received were fakes. I don't think anyone wanting to help, will ask to have money sent when they could easily do that themselves. That was why I was so leery and had it checked out first. The coast is deluded with these kinds of offers and our e-mail addresses were gotten from this Katrina Help site. So people beware.

Not one sincere offer has come. My mother is in great need. Any who is sincere please respond.

Oct 12, 2006 - Single mom needs help..Metairie, LA

My name is Suzanne Weisdorffer. I am a single mother raising my 12 year old boy. Two weeks before Katrina hit, my son and I put our entire home's contents in storage because we were looking for a new place to rent. We did not get renter's insurance because it was just going to be for about a month. While looking for a place, we were staying at my mother's house. Katrina hit! My storage was wiped out and my mother's house was destroyed. We live in Metairie, LA, just outside of New Orleans. I had my son when I was 18 and it took me that long to get the stuff I did have and now it's gone. I put myself through college while raising my son and became a teacher. After the storm, not enough children came back and I lost my job. I am now living in a FEMA trailor with my son. I got a job working in the local mall but am not making nearly what I need to survive. Any help you can do would be deeply appreciated! Our lives are starting over. I feel 18 again with no means to give my son what he needs. God bless Suzygage@msn.com

Oct 08, 2006 - Need help to move from Sandersville, GA to Biloxi, MS

Hi, My name is Jacqueline Rosol, and I am a 23 year old expectant mother of my 4th child forced to live by financial boundaries in a little town called Sandersville, GA. My husband was just offered a really good job in Biloxi, giving us a chance to return. After our house was torn apart in Waveland, MS, FEMA gave us just enough money to stay here, but now we desperately want to come back! Our problem is that the job is in the next 6 weeks, and there is no way that we can raise the money on our own to move down there. Any help would be appreciated, and I can provide pictures and factual proof of my plight if anyone is skeptical. Phone (478) 247-3941 or email ericrosol27@yahoo.com.

My husband had a recording studio on the corner of 4th Street and Ave B for 20 years...We lost all of that and our home ( lower 9th ) during Hurricane Katrina. We had to return to New Orleans in June 2006 for a variety of reasons. We really just want to get back to NY. If anyone can assist in a rental etc we would much appreciate it! Sep 25, 2006 - MS family needs help rebuilding home

Hi, we are a family of five in Picayune, MS and are in need of help in rebuilding our home. We had to completely gut our home because my daughter is asthmatic and highly allergic to mold and mildew which we have. Our insurance policy has a mold exclusion so neither FEMA or our insurance has provided financial assistance. My husband recently had back surgery so he is limited in what he can do. Any offers or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Email me at (tiphaniw2005@yahoo.com). Thanks so much.

Sep 24, 2006 - Family near Phoenix needs rent assistance

A family of two desperately needs assistance in the Phoenix AZ area for housing deposit or rent. I've tried day labor. Even tried to call shelter, no opening. Can't really work enough to save for deposit and have a place to stay every day. My wife (legally married) is pregnant(have proof) serious people needing help. We'll pay back with interest. Please call me at 480-274-4912 or message at 623-261-5234. Email me at mailto:chief9625@msn.com. God bless a child that has its own. And I've been trying very hard to support my family but can't seem to make it. Please help.

I know if I receive the help that I'm looking for I will build security around me and my family so that this will never happen again. Love life. Thanks for your time.

Sep 20, 2006 - New Orleans family needs help restoring home

Good afternoon, I will get quickly to the point of my being here, I have received very little help from people and agencies but I need it. My husband and I have continued to take care of our family but its getting hard. Three daugthers in college who have not missed a semester since Katrina, paying over a thousand dollars a month in rent not to mention utilities and I have no job anymore. We are trying to get our home in New Orleans finished enough to get home. Money is nice but if anyone with a skill could help us repair our home it would be better. Everything has to be replaced from ceiling to floor. My husband does work that is how we have been putting and keeping our lives in order. Thank you because we know someone out there is going to help.
