A short update on the Katrina Parrots here at my house. All numbers are approximate....

We have sent 100 birds home.

There are still 175 - 100 left. We have made contact with 10 - 15 other owners and are waiting to send or have them pick up their birds. Some of these owners are out of state and can not have the birds in their current place. They will get them when they retun to Louisiana.

We still get calls from people looking for their birds. Due to the nature of intake procedures at various places, and the understandable confusion..some birds do not have addresses. Owners of lost birds that could be here are invited to come see the birds.

All the birds are listed @petfinders.org

Over all, this has been a challange, I have never regretted taking on this task. I would do this again in a heartbeat...The reunions make each and every challange worthwhile. The volunteers have been great and their efforts are to be applauded. Everyone had something to offer...

Thanks to those of you who donated to this effort.. As time becomes available you will receive a personal thank you from me. I did not want to send anything that was mass mailed. I feel your support derserved something more. So please bear with me...

If you would like to help with the effort, please email me.... We continue to need volunteers here at the house..aka Squawk & Cheep Motel. I knew when undertaking this effort it probably last a year.. You are still welcome to come to Louisiana and help. Plan a vacation here..Bed and food supplied. The work is not hard, but the days are long. This is something that few will experience. Hopefully nothing ever again happens like this...anywhere... It has been a wake up call and an experience of a life time. Lessons have been learned. I am not addressing the human toll..but loss of life and home for 1000s of pets..with emphasis placed on the Avian Community.... Some of these birds did not have a chance... The ones here do have a chance...be apart of this effort.. Feeding stations are set up New Orleans to help capture birds that did escape... Hopefully, they will be captured, and owners found..
