Need Humane Traps For Katrina Animals Left Behind

Traps needed!

My name is Kelle Davis, and have been down to New Orleans and hard hit surrounding areas 5 times to do animal rescue. I am going back in a few weeks to help start up the trapping program to make sure all animals are helped. What we are seeing is all dogs and cats at this time have become somewhat feral from long time of non-exposure to humans, and from the near starvation they are facing. We trapped a full blooded collie boy last week, that for days we had tried to coaxe to come to us to no avail. After being trapped and a few pets later he was happy and content and glad to be back in the world of humans.

What I am asking is that if anyone has traps, most sizes needed would be the medium and large dog traps, please consider dontating one or more to ARNO: http://www.animalrescueneworleans.com/ , and I can transport them.

Time is very important now as it is getting colder and there still are none, or very few people in these areas and there isnt even trash for the dogs and cats to go through. At night we saw many cats on every block and packs of dogs roaming.

Please let me know if you can help with a donation of a trap or funds to be able to purchase.

Thanks for your help, Kelle

Hi everyone...

I just sent 9 boxes of pet supplies south from Connecticut today. 6 of those boxes are going to shelters in the Biloxi area. One is a kill facility (Humane Society of South Mississippi in Gulfport) so the animals need to be move very soon. They did get some transported out already but more need to go. They are going to the Biloxi area this week to bring more animals into their shelter. They have about 250 animals now and they are expecting alot more. There are 2 phone numbers for them...228-863-4394 office; 228-863-3354 shelter ask for Pamela... I think she was in the office when I spoke to her.

The other shelter I sent supplies to is not a kill facility. It is Jackson County Animal Shelter, Gautier, MS 228-497-6350. They have about 300 animals now and they also will be going to Biloxi to get more. So some of their animals also have to be moved. Reason I chose them to send the supplies was because my son has cutting trees in Biloxi after the hurricane for 2 weeks. He said it was so devastating there and a very poor area. I felt I had to do what I could do to help from here in Connecticut.

I will be going to North Carolina this week for 2 weeks. If anyone needs me to transport any animals(with their own cages)north please email me and I will give you my cell phone number. I will try to get to a library in NC to get my email while there. I'm leaving from Asheville, NC the weekend of Dec 17 so the pets will have to be brought to me or I can pick them up any place north of NC heading to CT.

Pat

I want to say to u Pat you are wonderful. I know anything u send will be a big help. Me and my family are in contact and have been working along side with Tara High who has the humane society in Gulfport,MS. We are leaving for our trip sooner cause of the desprite need to transport animals to help make room for the ones being rescued. A temporary shelter tent is being put up to help make more room for the animals being brought in. Thanks again for what ur doing. God bless!
