Update On Jim Wolf In Biloxi,MS
Date: Sun, 20 Nov 2005 17:42:34 -0000 From: "Amy" <lil_devil_usa1 @yahoo .com> Subject: Update On Man In Biloxi,MS
I am so happy to tell everyone that my dad (Jim Wolf) came home Saturday morning with 35 dogs that were rescued from Biloxi and some from the shelter in Gulfport, MS. There are lot more dogs that need rescued but its a start. Saturday night a group of people with 2 vans came and picked up the 35 dogs and are taking them to a shelter in New York (Ed: see note). I wanted to thank everyone who has either donated food, money or just helped by giving us the right info to reach the right people and ones who had us in there hearts. There is still lot of work to do down there but every dog and cat we save is better than none. My dad was down there for 2 weeks and we will be going back in December. Anyone that can help they mostly need volonteers to help catch the dogs and cats and help with transporting. What really upsets me is the people who are bulldozing houses and not caring about the animals in the houses. Anyone who wants to help or contact me you can e-mail me mailto:lil_devil_usa1@yahoo-dot-com or I have Yahoo Messenger to.

Re: Craigslist/New Orleans -- SPCA, Tylertown, MS. Dogs
Need Sweaters to keep warm! - Dogs are cold: Please donate sweaters
The same could be asked of HSUS.
In the meantime, these dogs are cold. How can they be helped? Get word out to any knitters, crocheters or knitting clubs/circles in your area. There are plenty of dog sweater/cape patters for free download online. For those who wish to purchase patterns and materials, both can be had at knitting shops or Walmart. Can't knit or crochet but want to help? Buy a sweater or contribute funds and/or materials to someone who can make one. Sponsoring a shipment of sweaters to H.S.L.A. would also be a good way to help.
For those who wish to buy sweaters and aren't in the area, check on pet-oriented websites and see about having them shipped to the area in need. Here's the address to which you may send the dog sweaters:
H.S.L.A. 115 Obed Magee Road Tylertown, MS 39667
Get this project listed on any charity needlework (knitting, crocheting, sewing) websites and spread the word through church and civic groups as well. One good website for charity listings is http://www.woolworks.org/charity.html . Ask your kntting, crocheting or sewing friends if they can help. I've also heard of people making jackets for animals, so any sewing groups could also be enlisted if they can find patterns.
If there are any chubby or barrel-chested dogs, a few Large sweaters/jackets might be needed as well.
There are also pet cape patterns available for download online for those who might find making a cape easier. I'm not sure of the conditions at this facility, so I'd buy or make anything out of easy-care materials, such as acrylics, that can be washed by machine or hand. The same goes for anything sewn.
I am a knitter, occasional sewer and crocheter too, and hope this information can be of help to these animals.

You're right..thing is is takes time to knit all those and mail them there. I contacted Walmart in Bentonville asking for them to be donated...some of you can also call or contact major stores, manufacturers and ask them to donate them too...towards the end of the yr many are looking for tax write-offs as well...

Tylertown LASPCA dogs are cold. These animals are outside, and are so thin that they feel the cold even more so. A donation of 50 dog sweaters in size medium would be greatly appreciated.
If you can help, please send to: HSLA 115 Obed Magee Rd. Tylertown, MS 39667
Thank you.
An update on my week in NOLA
Date: Sun, 20 Nov 2005 02:03:05 -0000 From: "kittyangels" <kittyangels @yahoo .com> Re: coming to NOLA 11/19 to volunteer....
An update on my week in NOLA-
I would estimate we saw around 100 cats and about 20 dogs while we were there. We brought in 13 animals including a sweet beagle roaming the street, another small dog (possibly a pomerian mix) that had made his new home in an open dirt lot, an older kitten we heard 'screaming' one night and after much searching found she must have gotten into a room on the 2nd floor of an apt. bldg. and the door got shut behind her and lastly two other cats one of which ran up to me meowing. He couldn't decide whether he wanted to be pet or eat more so I kept my hand above his hand and he would alternate between grabbing a bite of food and butting his head against my hand. I had to keep the carrier we put him in on my lap or he would cry.
We met many wonderful people- fellow rescuers along with residents who are home. Some of them are kindly feeding the animals they see while they are so busy trying to put their lives back together. I cried when one of them gave us a big hug and thanked us for coming to help. Many of the workers are feeding the strays as well.
No one can imagine the scope of the damage still evident in New Orleans- we went to an area approx. 14 miles away from the business district and there was devastation the whole ride.
I would beg anyone who is able to go even for a few days to do so. Your life will be forever changed and the rewards more than you can imagine,
Penny
