Major Decisions

  • regarding search and data entry interfaces: Until katrinasafe gets up and running, 1) use katrinalist.net for searching data and distribute HTML form from katrinalist.net to other sites so that they can search katrinalist.net 2) use data entry forms on katrinalist.net. After katrinasafe is up and running, 1) decision on search interfaces will be made at that time. 2) use katrinasafe data entry forms. they will provide a client for use by Red Cross shelters, which only covers 20% of the shelters. (I'm not clear on whether we promote the other 80% to use that client too or if they should continue to use katrinalist interfaces)
    • Why: katrinasafe.com development continues to be delayed and we want to make our data accessible now. Once katrinasafe.com is up, they will be the official site and thus all new data entry should occur using their tools.
    • When/Where: Decision was made during: Meeting: 13 Sept 2005
    • Who: Recommended by David, decided by meeting attendees
    • Notes: Some aspects of this decision need further clarification (i.e. project strategy once katrinasafe.com is fully active)
  • regarding further development: development should continue in parallel with katrinasafe.com efforts and on an opensource platform.
    • Why: 1) large corporations are not as agile as the opensource community 2) continue effort will improve reaction/setup time in the event of another catastrophe
    • When/Where: Decision was made during: Meeting: 13 Sept 2005
    • Who: Recommended by David, decided by meeting attendees
    • Notes: A decision on which platform development will continue still needs to be determined. topic will be discussed during: Meeting: 15 Sept 2005
  • regarding security: access to outbound data (including both CSV exports and PFIF feed) should be authorized.
    • Why: To introduce obstacles for folks who want the data for malicious purposes
    • When/Where: Decision was made during: Meeting: 13 Sept 2005
    • Who: Recommend by Kieran (?), decided by meeting attendees
    • Notes: access is protected via a password-protected wiki page (thanks to Zack)
