About
From Katrina Help Info
The KatrinaHelp Wiki was initially conceived in many different people's minds at approximately the same time worldwide. It represents a clear and direct effort at helping coordination, communication, and cooperation for rescue, recovery, and relief efforts.
The initial email was given voice by Rob Kline, and quickly echoed around by Angelo Embuldeniya, Constantin Basturea, Nancy Bohrer, Bala Pitchandi and others before we made the public announcement of the wiki. Most of the people who started to build this wiki are members of the TsunamiHelp Blog (http://tsunamihelp.blogspot.com/) and TsunamiHelp Wiki (http://www.tsunamihelp.info/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) team, related to the December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami disaster (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Indian_Ocean_earthquake).
The wiki is also hosting the Katrina PeopleFinder Project (started September 3, 2005), and the ShelterFinder project (started September 7, 2005).
The server for this wiki has been donated by Rudi Cilibrasi (http://cilibrar.com/) and the bandwidth is shared with the HCV Action Now (http://hcvaction.org/) and Internet2 (http://internet2.edu) facilities. Volunteer system and network administration and programming is handled by the AsiaQuake team: Rudi Cilibrasi (http://cilibrar.com/) and Anna Lissa Cruz (http://alcruz.com/). More information about the people who donated money for the wiki's servers and bandwidth are available here.
Content has been generously provided by the many people listed in the contributors section.
This website represents one of a number of websites aimed at increasing public good through increased direct participation at the operational level to increase transparency, improve accuracy in planning, and provide oversight and measurement for intelligent coordinated actions.
